Welcome to the first installment in our employee spotlight series! We’d like to take a minute and introduce you to Seth Norris, Director of Paid Media here at ZOG Digital.
Seth is a ZD veteran who has more than 13 years of industry experience. He optimizes integrated media through search engines and social media platforms, while also running ZD’s affiliate marketing solutions.
How long have you been with ZOG Digital?
This coming November will be my 6-year ZOGiversary. Though I’ve been working with Jeff, Jason, and Austin since 2004.
What is your biggest accomplishment at work?
My biggest accomplishment to date would probably be the time that I helped our team sell KitchenAid on to our Affiliate Marketing services. Big deal right? In all seriousness, one of things I am most proud of is being able to work in Paid Search, Paid Social, and Affiliate Marketing, at the same time. I guess I can consider that a big accomplishment.
Do you have a pre-work routine and if so, what is it?
Hit the gym, drink a ‘brotein’ shake, shoot a sub-par nine on the golf course behind our office, and then run around the building 17 times. Who am I kidding? I work from home pretty much every morning, then guzzle down two blue Monster Energy drinks and hit the road to ZD Central.
What is the oddest thing on your desk and why is it significant?
Well, my lava lamp! It isn’t that odd, but it does have a great story. My parents gave it to me as a gift before I left for my freshman year of college, and it’s still with me 24 years later. Yes it is likely older than 1/5th of ZOG Digital.
If you could trade lives with someone for one day, who would it be and why?
Dave Grohl. Why? Because he makes the greatest music ever and has an absolute blast doing it, even with a broken leg.
What’s your go-to Phoenix activity?
Well I’m an old man now, so you won’t see me in Old Town partying it up. Those days are gladly over. If it’s not going out with my wife, going to ASU games or going to concerts with some of the ZTeam, it’s probably rolling around town with my wife and our son (dog) Gus on our beach cruisers.
What’s the last song you were listening to?
That would be Midnight City by M83.
How did you wind up in digital marketing?
I began working for an agency in reporting and was recruited to go to another agency to do the same.
Six months after doing reporting there, our CEO Jeff pulled me aside and said, “You are no longer doing reporting, you are now doing paid search.” To this day I can’t thank him enough for that.
Serious question: cats or dogs?
I think we all at ZOG Digital know this answer: definitely dogs. Cats are full of dander and disrespect. Dogs are full of love and loyalty. They are seriously the greatest animals ever.
What do you do outside of work that may surprise others – and why?
This won’t come as a surprise to some, but I freaking love thrift stores. I love them so much that I’ve been known to sell a thing or two online. Whatever you are looking for, I can probably get it for you. Pro tip: Just wash it before you wear it.
